Weightless Together
When George W invented the concept of a preemptive war, it was clear
he wanted to fight very badly. When I thought about things I wanted
badly I was reminded of a poem I had written nearly 10 years before,
clear evidence that W and I are very different creatures.
While not intended to illustrate the poem, these paintings have their
origin in its final two words. |
I want
to hold
your hand all the way
through a movie,
to whisper, to get
cold, to stand
on one foot, to drink
blood-red wine,
to hold you from
behind and say nothing
and do nothing but
hold you,
to watch the sunrise,
to kiss
your ear, to smell
your hair, to remember
the heat from the stove
in your grandmother’s cottage,
to palm your breast, to jump
over shadows,
to rhyme words,
to run, to sleep,
to listen to
you breathe, to lick
your lips and sneaky tongue,
to joke about sex,
to walk all the way
around a lake, to stretch
my eyelids wide open,
to imitate
moo cows, to build
fires, to feel the lift
and fall of your heart, to kiss
the white of your thighs,
to grow
weightless together.
